United States of America

Any book tagged with this topic focuses on the history and people of the United States of America. The land of America had been inhabited by American Indians for at least 15,000 years before the British immigrated there and set up colonies in the 16th and 17th centuries. By 1775 these colonies were engaged in the American Revolution with England, fighting for their independence from the motherland. The war ended in 1783 with England's official recognition of the United States as a free nation. Currently the USA has 50 states, though the majority of these were accumulated only in the 1800's through westward expansion, called Manifest Destiny at the time. The USA is well-known for the Civil War, the Gold Rush, the practice and abolition of slavery, the U.S. Presidents, and their participation in World War I and World War II, to name a few.
